ABHISHEK: Hey, everyone. This is Abhishek from shakethecosmos.com.
Today’s episode: Did you know laughter is a great medicine without any side effects? So today I’m gonna tell a story, and hopefully that makes you smile.
I’m someone that talks to strangers. I think strangers are my best friends, and sometimes that gets me in trouble, sometimes it creates fun stories. So here’s one. I call it the Airport Girl.
I was coming back from Costa Rica. I’m dressed in my swim shorts, I’ve got my t-shirt on, got my flip flops, and I’m coming back from Costa Rica to San Diego, and I have a connection in Houston. So I’m at Houston Airport, walking around, looking for my boarding gate.
And then I finally find my boarding gate, and I also see this really cute girl, and she’s sitting at the boarding gate. So I’m like, “Okay.”
So I go and sit six to twelve feet from her, just a safe distance. And then eventually, our eyes make eye contact, and she smiles, and I smile. So I say to her, “Hey. Are you visiting San Diego, or do you live there?”
And then she looks at me and she says, “That is none of your business.” So I’m like, oh, okay. Well this is off to a great start.
So I ask her, “Okay, well, in case you were to live in San Diego, where would you live?”
And she looks at me again, and she says, “So you can kidnap me?” And I’m like, “Whoa.” Okay, okay, calm down, calming myself down. And so I’m like, okay, I’ll share something about myself.
I tell her, “Hey, I live in Pacific Beach.” So she tells me, “Okay.” And then she looks at me from head to toe, as she hears that. And she says, “Yeah, you look like you live in Pacific Beach.”
Remember, I’m wearing my flip flops, and I’m wearing my shorts, and I’ve got my t-shirt on.
So the banter keeps picking up, and we’re now starting to talk more, and then she eventually comes and sits next to me. We keep talking a little bit more, and then eventually the announcement happens, the boarding announcement. And the agent is like, “Hey, it’s time to board. Everybody, let’s get on the plane.”
So, I look at her and I say, “Hey, can I have your number, so we can go out sometime, outside the airport?” And she says, “Okay.”
So she grabs my phone and puts in her number. And then I’m like, “Okay, well what’s your name?” And she says, “Oh, I can’t give you my name.” I’m like, “Oh, okay, well…” I didn’t make too much of it, so I was like, “Okay, we’re just gonna give you a nickname. We’ll call you Alejandra. Alejandra the Airport Girl.” And I store her number as that.
So anyway, now we get on the plane. The plane is sitting on the tarmac, the runway, and it’s gonna take off in a few. And I get a text message. And who’s it from? Alejandra.
The text message reads: “Hey, the rows all around me are all empty. Do you want to come and distract me from my homework?” Huh. So I read this text message. Again, I don’t know her name. I don’t know what she does. I don’t even know where she lives.
So I have a choice to make. Do I want to be with her, for three and a half hours, from Houston to San Diego? Or just hang out by myself?
So of course, I make the right choice. I choose to hang out. I reply, and say, “All right. Let’s do it!”
So the plane takes off, and then eventually we both get up, and we go sit in an empty row, where it’s just her and me. And it is a blast. We’re having a great time, we’re doing meditations, we’re doing yoga. It feels like the entire plane is doing yoga. There’s turbulence at one point, and she holds onto my hand. She passes out on my shoulder at one point, just to take a little nap. And it’s a great time.
Eventually the plane lands. We’re both in the Uber area, we’re just looking for our taxis, waiting for our taxis. And I’m like, okay, well, I should learn something more about her, maybe, if I want to ask her out again. So I’m like, “Hey. What do you like to do?” And she’s like, “Okay, well I like hiking.” I’m like, all right. Okay.
So, the next day, I text her. I’m like, “Hey, you mentioned you like hiking. Would you like to go hiking this Saturday in Balboa Park? There’s a lot of people, you should feel safe.”
And to this, she responds, “Well, actually, I’m getting married on Saturday.”
