I'm really, really excited about today's episode about connection, community, and how I've found certain key things in my life which have helped me connect with people. I want to share those with you to help you connect with people, and also maybe helps you understand what are some things in your life that you're already doing to connect with people. And before we get any further, hit that subscribe button or follow button so you don't miss out on any future episodes okay, and give this episode a rating. So let's get back into it.
So what do I mean by trends, connection and things? So for me, real estate has been a big part of my life since 2009. So it's been almost 11, 12 years since I've been doing real estate. I remember trying to buy my first ever 4 plex, a four unit building. It was tough, it was my first ever deal, and I was really nervous. At the same time, it's a lot of money. I was going to business school at the time, I also had a job and other responsibilities. I was like, okay, so how can I afford this? And somehow, I'm putting it all together, the deal is coming together and we're about to close it in like five days. And for some reason, it blows up. What does it mean the deal blows up, and everybody's really mad. So what happens is the seller we're about to close says: "I want 15,000 more dollars." And I'm like, what? All of a sudden, everything is going to be okay, but then the seller wanted more money. And that creates a big tussle. So essentially all the ages, all the parties, Ahe agents are fighting each other and trying to just resolve this issue that has started. and that my agent comes to me and says: "Okay, Abhishek, this deal is done. I think we should start looking at another place. We cannot resolve this." And I'm like, huh, okay. I really wanted the place, the numbers made sense. The 15,000 definitely was kind of iffy and a big issue, big thorn in the deal. I do believe there's a deal every week. So what did I do? Well, I called the owner.
So I called Richard. He's a 70 year old man, really a Sacramento real estate mogul. And we chatted here and I was like, hey, I was on the phone, why don't we go get some Mexican food? And he agreed to it. So it's lunchtime, like 12 o'clock, Sacramento Taqueria, and him and I are going to have some Mexican food. We sit down, and we don't talk about real estate at all. We're eating quesadilla, he's having some tortilla chips or a burrito, just having a good time talking about Mexican food, talking about family. He's sharing with me how his faith is really important to him, and all these things that are important to him, then we're just chatting, eating food. And it's almost like two hours. We're not talking about real estate at all.
And then comes a time for like, literally this whole, the next point in the conversation was really like five minutes he's like, well, okay, I'm looking for 15,000 more. And I'm like, okay, well, what can you do in return? How about you create a brand new fence, paint the whole thing again, update some of the flooring, fix some of the issues with the foundation and create a new shed in the back. And he's like, I'd also repair the driveway, bring a brand new driver. And he's like, okay, that sounds good to me. And that was it. The deal was like, literally, him and I are sitting across it. He's like, tick, tick, tick on his calculator. He's like, that sounds good. I didn't just make that deal. So then we finished that deal, I close to 15,000 over, I got all the new driveway, new Redwood fans and all these things. He also became my real estate mentor. So he would always call me with deals, Abhishek, I've got this deal for you so you can take a look. He also became a deal finder for me. And also just he would teach me concepts, he even invited me to his church.

So really, for me, I've found that there are these things, they're these trends in my life whether it's having a meal or a coffee, the people where he really creates that connection. And there are moments, of course, like that real estate moment that really stands out to me. So what's something in your life? Have you looked back where you met a really good friend maybe, or you met a really good boyfriend, or girlfriend, or your husband, or wife, or spouse, whatever it is. Sometimes, these trends matter. Because for me, it's always like food is like sharing, it's a connection. I look forward to that even in the future networking meetings, or the future connection and the community meetings. There's an opportunity to share food with someone. I made sure I tried to do that. But I wanted to just record it so you have a chance to think about what are some trends in your life where you feel really connected with someone, what do you do? What are activities that help you connect with others? All right, well, hope you're having a great day. Thank you for tuning in. Keep checking the Cosmos.
